Elephant
5 ozs light grey 4 ply worsted weight yarn and small amounts blue and pink.
Crochet hook size H/8
Scraps of black, white and pink felt
Stuffing
Two small buttons
24" of 5/8" wide satin ribbon.
Measurements: 11".
Gauge : 7 sc and 8 rows = 2".
NOTE: Dec 1 sc or 1 hdc: ( insert hook in next st, yo, draw yarn through st ) twice, yo, draw yarn through 3 lps on hook.
HEAD/BODY: Beg at center top of Head, with gray, ch 2. 
Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do NOT join but cont. to work in a spiral, marking beg of each rnd and moving marker as work progresses. 
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc, around. ( 12 sc ). 
Rnd 3: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc * rep from * around. ( 18 sc ). 
Rnd 4: * Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc * rep from * around. ( 24 sc ). 
Rnd 5: Sc in each sc around. 
rnd 6: * Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc * rep from * around. ( 30 sc ). 
Rnd 7: * Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc * rep from * around. ( 36 sc ). 
Rnd 8: * Sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc * rep from * around. ( 40 sc ). 
Rnds 9-13: Sc in each sc around. 
Rnd 14: * Sc in next 8 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 36 sc ). 
Rnd 15: * Sc in next 4 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 30 sc ). 
Rnd 16: * Sc in next 3 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 24 sc ). 
Rnd 17: * Sc in next 2 sts, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 18 sc ). Stuff Head firmly. 
Rnd 18: Rep Rnd 15 15. ( 15 sc ). 
Rnd 19: 2 sc in each sc around. ( 30 sc ). 
Rnds 20-21: Rep Rnds 7-8. ( 40 sc at end of last rnd ). 
Rnd 22: Sc in each sc around;. 
Rnd 23: Rep Rnd 6. ( 50 sc ). 
Rnds 24-32: Sc in each sc around. 
Rnd 33: * Sc in next 23 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 48 sc ). 
Rnd 34: * Sc in next 6 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sc * rep from * around. ( 42 sc ). 
Rnd 35: * Sc in next 5 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sc * rep from * around. ( 36 sc ). 
Rnd 36: * Sc in next 4 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sc * rep from * around. ( 30 sc ). 
Rnd 37: * Sc in next 3 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 24 st ). Stuff Body up to this rnd, then finish stuffing as Body in completed. 
Rnd 38: * Sc in next 2 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sc * rep from * around. ( 18 sc ). 
Rnd 39: * Sc in next sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sc * rep from * around. ( 12 sc ). 
Rnd 40: * Dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 6 sc ). 
Rnd 41: Dec 1 sc in next 2 sts, sl st in next st. Fasten off, leaving a long length for sewing. Weave length through last rnd of sts, draw tight to close opening and secure. 
ARM/LEG: ( make 4 ): Starting at centre bottom of Foot, with grey, ch 2. 
Rnds 1-4: Rep Rnds 1-4 of Head/Body. 
Rnd 5: Rep Rnd 6 of Head/Body. ( 30 sc ). 
Rnd 6: Sc in blp of each sc around. 
Rnd 7: * Sc in next 3 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 24 sc ). 
Rnd 8: * Sc in next 4 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 20 sc ). 
Rnd 9: Sc in flp of each sc around. 
Rnds 10-14: Sc in each sc around. sl st in next sc at end of last rnd, fasten off, leaving a long length for sewing. Stuff Arms and Legs firmly, keeping bottom of each Foot a bit flat. Sew Arms and Legs in place. 
EAR: ( make 2 ): Starting at inside edge of Ear with gray, ch 13. 
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. ( 12 sc ). 
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in first st, hdc in each st across to last st, 2 hdc in last st, turn. ( 14 hdc ). 
Row 3: Rep Row 2. ( 16 hdc ). 
Rows 4-5: Ch 2, hdc in each hdc across, turn. ( 16 hdc ). 
Row 6: ch 2, dec 1 hdc in first 2 sts, hdc in next 6 hdc, dec 1 hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 4 hdc, dec 1 sc in last 2 hdc, turn. ( 13 sts ). 
Row 7: Ch 1, dec 1 sc in first 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st * rep from * once, dec 1 hdc in last 2 sts, turn. ( 12 sts ). 
Row 8: Ch 2, dec 1 hdc in first 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sl st in next st, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, dec 1 sc in last 2 sts. Fasten off leaving a length for sewing. Sew Ears at sides of Head. 
TRUNK: Starting at base with grey, ch 18, close into a ring with a sl st in first ch. 
Rnd 1: Do NOT ch 1, sc in each ch around, do not join. Work in a spiral as before. ( 18 sc ). 
Rnds 2-5: Sc in each sc around. 
Rnd 6: * Sc in next 4 sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 15 sc ). 
Rnds 7-9: Sc in each sc around. 
Rnd 10: ( Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc ) 3 times, ( sc in next sc, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts ) 3 times. ( 15 sc ). 
Rnd 11: Rep Rnd 10. ( 15 sc ). 
Rnd 12: Sc in next 8 sc, hdc in next 7 sc. ( 15 sts ). 
Rnd 13: Rep Rnd 12. 
Rnd 14: Sc in next sc, ( sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc ) 3 times, sc in next sc, ( dec 1 sc in next 2 sts ) 3 times, sc in next sc. ( 15 sc ). 
Rnd 15: * Sc in next 3 sts, dec 1 sc in next 2 sts,* rep from * around. ( 12 sc ). 
Rnd 16: Sc in each sc around. 
Rnd 17: * Hdc in flp of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in flp of next st * rep from * around, sl st to first st of rnd to join. Fasten off. Stuff Trunk firmly up to Rnd 17. 
Trunk End: With grey, ch 2. 
Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do NOT join but continue to work in a spiral as before. 
Rnd 2: 2 Sc in each sc around. ( 12 sc ). Fasten off leaving a length for sewing. Fold Rnd 17 of Trunk back and whip st Rnd 2 of Trunk end to rem lps in Rnd 16 of Trunk. Fold Rnd 17 of Trunk forward again and sew base of completed to face with Trunk curving upward. 
COLLAR: With blue, ch 56. 
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each ch across, turn. ( 54 hdc ). 
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in next 6 sts, hdc in next 42 sts, sc in next 6 sts, turn. ( 54 sts ). Fasten off blue, join pink. 
Row 3: With pink, ch 1, * skip 2 sts ( 3 hdc, ch 1, 3 hdc ) in next st, skip 2 sts, sc in next st * rep from * across. Fasten off. Place Collar around neck edge and sew foundation ch edges tog starting at neck and working to Collar end. Glue buttons to centre front of Collar. 
HAT: Starting at centre top with blue, ch 2. 
Rnds 1-4: Rep Rnds 1-4 of Head/Body. ( 24 sc ). 
Rnd 5: * Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc * rep from * around. ( 30 sc ). 
Rnd 6: * Sc in blp of next 3 sc, dec 1 sc in blp of next 2 sts * rep from * around. ( 24 sc ). 
Rnd 7: Rep Rnd 5. ( 30 sc ). 
Rnd 8: Sc in each sc around. 
Rnd 9: * Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc * rep from * around. ( 39 sc ). Fasten off blue, join pink. 
Rnd 10: With pink, sc in each sc around, sl st to first sc to join. 
Rnd 11: Rep Row 3 of Collar, ending with sl st to first ch 1. Fasten off, leaving a sewing length. Stuff Hat slightly and sew to Head. Trace actual size pattern pieces and cut 2 eyes from white felt, 2 pupils and 2 eyelashes from black felt. Glue to face as in photo. Cut mouth from pink felt and glue underneath Trunk. Cut 12 toenails from white felt and glue 3 across top of each foot. Tie ribbon bow around Neck.
