Gauge
18 sc and 16 rnds = 4 inches/10 centimeters
Take time to check your gauge.
Do not join rounds. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round, moving it up as you go from round to round.
1. Body. Beg at the back end with MC, ch 2. Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Place marker. Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around -- 12 sts. Move marker. Rnd 3: (Sc in sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -- 18 sts. Move marker. Cont as established and move marker at end of each rnd. Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -- 24 sts. Rnd 5: (Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -- 30 sts. Rnd 6: (Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -- 36 sts. Rnd 7: (Sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -- 42 sts. Rnd 8: Work even. Rnd 9: (Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -- 48 sts. Rnd 10: Work even. Rnd 11: (Sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -- 54 sts. Rnds 12-29: Work even. Rnd 30: (Sc in next 7 sc, sc2tog) 6 times -- 48 sts. Rnd 31: Work even. Rnd 32: (Sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog) 6 times -- 42 sts. Rnd 33: Work even. Rnd 35: (Sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog) 6 times -- 36 sts. Rnd 36: Work even. Rnd 37: (Sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) 6 times -- 30 sts. Rnds 38-40: Work even. Fasten off at end of Rnd 40. Firmly stuff Body.
2. Head. Beg at forehead with MC, ch 2. Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Place marker. Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around -- 10 sts. Rnds 3-7: Inc 5 sts in each rnd, rep Rnds 3-7 of Body; at end of Rnd 7-35 sts. Rnds 8-12: Cont to inc 5 sts on each rnd as established -- 60 sts at end of Rnd 12. Rnd 13: (Sc in next 10 sc, sc2tog) 5 times -- 55 sts. Rnd 14: (Sc in next 9 sc, sc2tog) 5 times -- 50 sts. Cont to dec in this manner on every rnd until 30 sts rem. Fasten off. Stuff Head.
3. Trunk. Beg at tip of trunk, with MC, ch 2. Rnd 1: Work 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Place marker. Rnds 2-3: Work even. Rnd 4: Sl st in first 3 sc, sc in next sc, hdc in last 3 sc. Rnd 5: Sc in each st around -- 7 sts. Rnds 6-9: Rep Rnds 2-5. Rnd 10: Work even in sc. Rnd 11: Sc in first 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, sc in last st -- 8 sts. Rnd 12: Sc in first 5 sts, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, sc in last st -- 10 sts. Rnd 13: Sc in first 5 sts, 2 hdc in each of next 4 sts, sc in last st -- 14 sts. Rnd 14: Sc in first 5 sts, 2 hdc in next 4 sts, sc in next 4 sts, sl st in last st -- 18 sts. Fasten off. Firmly stuff trunk. With trunk pointed upward, sew it to Head beg in 4th rnd from last Head rnd.
4. Ears (make 2). Beg in center with MC, ch 2. Rnd 1: Work 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Place marker. Rnds 2-7: Rep Rnds 2-7 of Body, and inc 7 sts in each rnd. At end of Rnd 7-49 sts. Rnd 8: Sl st in each of first 40 sc. Fasten off. Sew ears to sides of head beg in 4th rnd from last Head rnd and 1.75 inches from Trunk base. Place them so they are angled toward back of Head and the tops of the Ears end at 9th rnd from last Head rnd.
5. Legs (make 4). Beg at sole, with MC, ch 2. Rnd 1: Work 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Place marker. Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around -- 14 sts. Rnd 3: (Sc in sc, 2 sc in next sc) around -- 21 sts. Rnd 4: Working in back lps only, sc in each sc around. Rnds 5-6: Working through both lps, sc in each sc around. Rnd 7: (Sc in each of next 5 sc, sc2tog) 3 times -- 18 sts. Rnds 8-10: Sc in each sc around. Rnd 11: Hdc in first 2 sc, dc in next 5 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, sc in next sc, sl st in next sc. Fasten off. Stuff Legs.
6. Assemble. Sew Head to Body. Sew Front Legs to body angled toward front. Sew Back Legs 3 inches from Front Legs and 1 inch apart. Sew these angled toward the back.
7. Headscarf. With A, ch 4; join with sl st to form ring. Rnd 1: Ch 3 -- counts as dc; 2 dc in ring, ch 2; (3 dc in ring, ch 2) 3 times; join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. Fasten off. Rnd 2: With RS facing, join B with sl st in any ch-2 sp; ch 3 -- counts as dc; in same sp work 2 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc; * ch 1, in next ch-2 sp work (3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc); rep from * twice more; end with ch 1; join to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. Rnd 3: With RS facing, join C in any ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 sc in same sp; * sc in next 3 dc, sc in ch-1 sp, sc in next 3 dc **, 3 sc in corner ch-2 sp; rep from * around, ending last rep at **; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
8. Fringe (make 4 -- 2 of color A, 2 of color B) For each fringe, cut two 6-inch strands of one color. Knot a fringe to each corner of the headscarf, alternating colors; trim ends. Sew Headscarf to top of Head.
9. Blanket. With C, ch 24. Row 1: With B, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn -- 23 sts. Row 2: With A, ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Row 3: With C, ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Row 4: With B, ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Rep Rows 2-4 four times more. Rep Row 2 again. Fasten off.
Make 10 fringe along each long edge of blanket, alternating colors and using two 6" strands to make each fringe. Trim ends. Sew Blanket to Back with fringed edges hanging down.
10. Finishing. With C, make a French knot for each eye, 1 inch from Trunk and spaced 1.75 inches apart.
11. Tail. Cut three 10-inch lengths of MC. Hold strands tog and pull them around one sc 6 rnds from Rnd 1 of Body. Line up ends and divide into 3 groups of 2 strands each. Braid for 2 inches; tie overhand knot at the end of each braid. Trim ends.
