CROCHET BRIGHT AND BREEZY PONCHO

Materials:
  • Caron Simply Soft Brites
  • (100% acrylic 6 oz.), 2 skeins of Mango #9605 (MC), 1 skein of Lemonade #9606 (CC).
  • H Crochet hook
  • 1/8 yard of fleece or felt to match yarn
  • Tapestry needle
  • small hole punch or fine crochet hook

GAUGE
3 shells and 6.5 rows =4”

STITCH PATTERN
Shell stitch 2dc, ch2, 2dc
Corner shell stitch
Row 1: 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc (6dc in ch)
Row 2: 2dc, ch 2, 2dc in ch 2  space ch 2, 2 dc in next ch 2 sp, ch 2, 2dc in same ch 2 space or shell in ch 2 sp, ch 2, shell in next ch 2 sp
Row 3: 2dc, ch 2, 2dc in ch 2 sps Or shell stitch in each ch 2 sp
Repeat rows 1-3 through out
PONCHO
Using Mango, Chain 64. Join with a slip stitch being careful not to twist chain
Row 1: chain 3 counts as one dc *Corner shell stitch in first chain, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc, ch 2, 2dc) skip 3 ch, shell stitch in next chain, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) skip 3ch, shell stitch in next chain, skip 3 ch, shell stitch in next ch (3 shells formed)* repeat from * 3 more times join with a slip stitch - 4 corner clusters and 12 shell clusters
Row 2: chain 3 counts as one dc * 2dc, ch 2, 2dc in ch 2 sp, ch 2, 2dc in next ch 2 sp, ch 2, 2dc, in same ch2 sp, (corner formed) 3 shell stitches in next 3 ch 2 sp * repeat to end join with slip st
Row 3: chain 3 counts as one dc * 1 shell in each ch 2 sp continue from * join with slip stitch
Rows 4-13: Repeat rows 1 – 3 putting shell over shell and repeating corner shell rows
Change to Lemonade
Row 14 -21: *chain 8, sc in ch 2 sp* continue around placing 2 sc in each corner. Next row place sc in middle of ch 8 continue in this manner until you have completed 7 rows. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Using Mango make fringe – using 7 strands of yarn 10” long, fold in half and Place fringe in each of the ch 8 loops.
Using tapestry needle weave in any ends.

FLOWERS
Make 12
Refer to photo to create flower template. Using template, trace flowers on fleece and cut out.
Place small holes around outside of fleece and trim with sc around edges
Using tapestry needle position flowers on chains above fringe.
