A DAINTY SUMMER MODEL

Knitted In A Simple, Effective Lace Stitch

THIS charming little jumper is designed to fit a 33-35 in. bust measurement, and wool in a pastel shade of pink or blue would be delightful.

Materials.- 6 ozs. of 3-ply knitting wool. A pair each of No. 10 and 12 “Str??n?id” knitting needles. Two buttons.

Measurements.- Length from shoulder to lower edge, 18 ½ inches. Width all round at underarms, 33 inches, stretching to 35 inches. Sleeve seam, 3 ½ inches.

Tension.- 7 sitches in width and 9 rows in depth to one inch.

Abbreviations.- K. = knit ; p. = purl ; tog. = together ; wl.fwd. = wool forward ; rep. = repeat ; ptn. = pattern ; sts. = stitches; inc. = increase or increasing ; dec. = decrease or dedreasing ; rem. = remaining ; cont. = continue.

THE PATTERN

1st row.-* K. 2 tog., k. 2, wl.fwd., k. 1, wl.fwd., k. 2, slip 1, k. 1, pass slipped stitch over. Rep. from * to end of row.

2nd row.-P.

Rep. these 2 rows 5 times more.

13th row.-P.

14th row.-K.

15th row.-P.

16th row.-K. 1, * wl.fwd., k. 2 tog., rep. from * to end.

17th row.-P.

18th row.-K.

THE FRONT

With No. 12 needles cast on 100 sts. Work in k. 1, p. 1 rib for 3 ½ inches. Inc. in the next row as follows : Next row.-* K. 3, k. twice into next st., rep. from * to end of row (125 sts.). Next row.-P., purling twice into last st. (126 sts.). Change to No. 10 needles, and rep. ptn. 4 times and 11 rows of the 5th ptn.

Shape Armhole.-

12th row.-Cast off 6 sts., p. to end.

13th row.-Cast off 6 sts., p. to end.

14th row.-K. 2 tog., k. to last 2 sts., k. 2 tog.

15th row.-P. 2 tog., p. to last 2 sts., p. 2 tog.

16th row.-K. 2 tog., * wl.fwd., k. 2 tog. Rep. from * ending k. 2 tog. (108 sts. rem.)

Shape Neck.-

9th row.-Work in ptn. till 6 sts. rem., k. 6.

THE SLEEVES

Using No. 12 needles, cast on 85 sts. and work in k. 1, p. 1 ribbing for 16 rows.

Next row.-* K. 1, k. twice into the next st., rep. from * to end of row (126 sts.).

Next row.-P.

Change to No. 10 needles, and work one complete ptn.

Shape top as follows :

1st row.-Cast off 9 sts. (slip st. left on needle from casting off back again to the left-hand needle), and rep. 1st row of ptn. till 9 sts. rem., k. 9.

2nd row.-Cast off 9 sts., p. to end.

3rd row.-Cast off 3 sts. (counting st. left on needle after casting off), k. 6, then rep. 3rd row of ptn. till 9 sts rem., k. 9.

4th row.-Cast off 3 sts., p. to end.

5th row.-Cast off 3 sts., k. 3, rep. 5th row of ptn. till 6 sts. rem., k. 6.

6th and every even-numbered row.-Cast off 3 sts., and p. to end.

7th row.-Cast off 3 sts. (slip st. left on needle after casting off back again to left-hand needle), rep 7th row of ptn. till 3 sts. rem., k. 3.

9th row.-Cast off 3 sts., k. 6, rep. 9th row of ptn. till 9 sts. rem., k. 9.

1st row of 3rd ptn.-Cast off 3 sts. (slip st. left on needle after casting off back on again to left-hand needle), and rep. 1st  row of ptn. till 3 sts. rem., k. 3.

Rep. 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th rows of 2nd ptn. Cast off rem. sts.

Stitch shoulders of back and front tog.

The Back Neckband.-

With right side of work facing, join wool at one shoulder and, using a No. 12 needle, knit up and draw through 90 sts. round back of neck, knitting up the cast-off sts. and knitting up 1 st. between the cast-off ones at side of neck.

Work in k. 1, p. 1 ribbing for 15 rows.

Cast off, still working in the rib.

The Front Neckband.-

Using No. 12 needles and with right side of work facing, join wool at one shoulder, and knit up 111 sts. round neck to second shoulder.

1st row.-* K. 1, p. 1, rep. from * ending k. 1.

2nd row.-Inc. in the first st., * k. 1, p. 1, rep. from * to last 2 sts., k. 1, inc. in last st.

Rep. the second row 5 times more.

8th row.-Inc. in first st., rib 6 sts., cast off 6 sts. for buttonhole, rib to last 13 sts., cast off 6 sts., rib to last st., inc. in last st.

9th row.-K. 2 tog., rib 6 sts., cast on 6 sts., rib to cast-off sts., cast on 6 sts., rib to last 2 sts., p. 2 tog.

Working into backs of cast-on sts. on first row only, cont. in rib for 6 more rows, dec. at both ends of every row.

Cast off, still working in the rib.

TO COMPLETE JUMPER

Omitting all ribbing, press work lightly on wrong side. Stitch side and sleeve seams and stitch sleeves into position. Attach a button on to each end of back neckband (1 in. in from the ends), to correspond with buttonholes on the front.
